In the Pines

I was listening the other night to the classic old folk song “In the Pines”, or “Black Girl” sung by the blues great Lead Belly. Here are 3 monotypes that were influenced by it.
Listen to the audio I posted at the bottom, its beautiful.

  1. Music translated into painting, instead of painting inspired by the direct visual world, nice approach! Hearing the song and viewing the paintings gives a double aesthetic experience. I like the third painting especially, the light streaming down around the figure is very effective. It looks like impasto around the figure.
